The Titanic was the largest White Star liner of its day. It was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast and its maiden voyage took it from Belfast to Southampton, then to Queenstown, Ireland, then Cherbourg, France, and finally acrross the Atlantic to New York. For the final leg of the voyage it had 2224 passengers and crew. It hit an iceberg and sank in mid-Atlantic on 14 April 1912. There were only 705 survivors.
