The Harvey family's Celtic Cross at Nightingale Cemetery


The cross is inscribed:

In Loving Memory of John Stewart Harvey, 1 Corps Royal 1st Devon Yeomanry, who died in the service of his country, 27 January 1916 aged 23, of Enteric Fever contracted at Suvla Bay

Also of Ralph Harvey, Sergt. Lord Strathcona’s Horse (R.C.) [Royal Canadians], who was accidentally killed in France after 2 ½ years’ service, aged 26. Buried at Le Treport, March 1 1917

Also of Charlie Christopher Harvey, 44th Batt, Australian Imp. Force, who died of wounds received in action near Ypres, Oct 5 1917, aged 30, buried in the English Military Cemetery, Nine Elms, near Passchendaele

In Loving Memory of Charlie Christopher Harvey who died Jan 11 1918 aged 68.  For many years Churchwarden of this parish “Even he that leadeth an uncorrupt life and doeth the thing which is right”

Also in loving memory of Alice Harvey, died June 30th 1938, in her 84th year, “No more let life divide what death can join together”
