Toys are an easily accessible topic for young children, encouraging them to think about what life was like in the past and about similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods.  They offer many cross-curricular opportunities - including Art and Design, Design and Technology and considering the properties and uses of different materials in Science.

Toys in the Past workshop

Discover how children played in the past by handling original and reproduction toys.  Examine the different materials used to make toys, think about their properties and how you can tell old from new.  Look at Victorian and Edwardian optical toys and make your own example.

There is an additional charge for materials and preparation time of £1 per student for this workshop

Loan Box

There is a loan box: All resources use original artefacts whenever possible and set the local story within its wider context. This box comes with detailed teacher’s notes.
