High Street in 1961 shows most of the buildings in the High Street in photographs taken by Peter Quittenton & Lovell Appleyard LRPS, who made a similar surveys of several other local town centres. This is in two parts:
The index to the photographs also shows the numbering of the buildings before it was changed in 1964.
There are computer screens in the Museum, on the ground floor in the Coffee Shop and on the first floor by the People's Gallery. These computers can be used by visitors and provide a wide range of information about the history of the town and the surrounding area. There are about 2,000 historical images and about the same number of modern images.
